Capilano U23 Men 19 – 5 Richmond U23 Men
The Capilano U23 Men played for the first time in 2018. The numbers in the squad have been boosted by additions for the Capilano U18 Men who played in the first half of the season. Capilano came out on top in the first game of the doubleheader with Richmond by a 19 to 5 score line.

Capilano 3B Men 22 – 6 Richmond 3rd Division Men
The Capilano 3B’s continued its winning streak with a 22-6 victory in Richmond. The game was played in tough weather conditions but the experience of the Caps propelled them to victory. Thank you to Richmond for hosting the Caps for two games this weekend!

Capilano Premier Women 20 – 17 CW
The Capilano Premier Women were in a tough defensive match-up with the CW women; most of the first 30 minutes played between the 22’s. Caps then kicked to the corner from a penalty, won the line-out and Demi ran the ball in for the first try. Convert was wide, score now Caps 5-0. CW responded with a hard run down the mid-field to score under the posts and made the convert. Caps 5- CW 7. Another penalty was awarded to Caps in the CW red zone and after hard work from the forwards, Demi ran it in for her second of the game. Caps missed some tackles on the CW #6 who took it all the way and scored just as the half ran out. Convert was missed. Score Caps 10- CW 12 at halftime.
Halfway through the second half, Caps were awarded a scrum on the CW 5 meter line, Caps scrummers controlled the ball and #9 Christina touched it down in the corner. Caps 15-12. The next try came from good ball through the backs, from #12 Suhad to #13 Kaitlyn to score a dramatic try again in the corner. Convert was wide, Caps up 20-12. With the clock ticking down, it looks like Caps had control of the game, but a quick turnover and the CW #10 capitalized on missed tackles again and scored in the corner. Convert was missed and final whistle sounded.
Final score Caps 20- CW 17.

Thanks to the referee and CW for hosting.
It is of some concern to the writer that the Capilano Premier team travelled with only one spare even though the Second Division game had been cancelled the night before. I realize a 530am start from the clubhouse two weekends in a row is onerous, however it is very hard on the Women who did travel to only have one supporting spare when the host team had lots of fresh legs. Kudos to our women for pulling it out in spite of this circumstance.

Capilano Premier Reserves 0 – 49 CW
The Capilano Reserve Men had a tough day at Windsor Park. The CW Reserve Men scored 3 tries in the corners in the first 40 minutes. None of these tries were converted to make the half-time score 15-0 in favour of CW. It was downhill from there for the Caps. CW opened the second half with another score from a penalty on the 15m. The next try went down the wing and was followed by a try off a lineout. CW ended up scoring 34 second half points to come out on top. The Caps men fought to the final whistle but were outmatched in speed and size.

Capilano Premier Men 19 – 21 CW
CW got the first points of the match at 10 minutes in with a try in the corner from a Cap turnover. Nanyak Dala stole his first of many balls at the ruck and the try was scored in the corner. The conversion was wide for a 5-0 CW lead. The next score came 5 minutes later with CW #10 Robbie Povey adding 3 more off a well struck penalty kick. At the 25min mark the CW #9 broke off the back of a scrum on the Caps 5m and broke a tackle to score a try. This gave CW a 13-0 lead. Caps got the next score off a blocked kick by Johnny Franklin who passed the ball to Rich Merinsky who moved it to Jon Webster to score a try. Sam Franklin made the convert to push the Caps to 7 points. Before the half, the Caps scored again. Erik Hunter-James made a strong run into the CW territory. The Caps forwards mauled the ball off a lineout to get near the CW goal line where Neil Courtney took it in for the try. The conversion was missed, and the halftime score was 13-12 in favour of CW.

Around the 65-minute mark the CW number 3 Clayton Thornber scored a try off a multiple phase attack from CW. The conversion was missed but CW pushed its lead to 6 points. With 5 minutes to go the Caps had a scrum in an attacking position. Glen McKinnon picked off the back and passed to Chris Robinson. The ball was then moved to Johnny Franklin who beat a defender to score a try. Johnny’s brother, Sam Franklin, made a tough kick to put the Caps up by 1 point. There were 4 minutes left on the clock at the ensuing kickoff. The Caps caught the ball and attempted to grind out the remainder of the game. This worked for a few minutes until Dala again stole the ball to give CW possession. They worked it close to the Caps line before the Caps conceded a penalty which was converted by Povey. The kick was the last play of the game and CW came out on top 21-19. The Caps gained 1 bonus point from the match but had hoped for more.

Thanks to CW for hosting the Caps for three matches. The weather changed multiple times during the day with very strong winds and rain throughout, making it a tough day for the kickers and lineout throwers. Thanks to the 3 referees on the day who also battled the tough conditions. The Caps men were hosted well at the CW clubhouse where both sides supported the Canada Men against Uruguay for the first half before the Caps bus left for the ferry.
